Marriage Bond of Cuthbert Waller and Elizabeth Compton
This old marriage bond was made October 21 1805. I don’t
know what a marriage bond is all about, but is seems that Cuthbert and
Elizabeth’s brother, Thomas, have promised to pay the Governor of the
Commonwealth of Virginia the sum of one hundred fifty dollars. Is this to be
paid if the wedding does not happen?
The father of the bride certifies, by his hand and seal,
that he has no objection to the intended marriage.
